What are the benefits of using device address book vs. SIM?

Your phone's address book supports a richer set of fields, such as contact name, first name, last name, mobile phone, home phone, work phone, email address, home address, work address etc.  The number and type of fields will depend upon the phone make and model.  The SIM card only supports a few fields such as contact name and phone number.  By backing up your phone's address book more of your contact information will be saved.

Why don't I see all the home and work addresses of my Gmail contacts when I import my Gmail address book in a CSV file?

The home and work address fields are not supported when you import Gmail contacts via a CSV file. The reason is that during the export process, Gmail aggregates address fields into one whole field which cannot then be reliably parsed into individual address fields, such as street, city, state.

I have two entries in my phone address book for a contact "Jack Smith".   When I look at the website I see only one "Jack Smith".  Is all the contact information pertaining to Jack Smith saved on the website?

Yes.  Even though there may be two entries of "Jack Smith" on your phone, the website will save all the contact information under one contact named "Jack Smith”.  This situation only happens for certain phones such as the Motorola L7, V365, V3i, V3R.

On the Mobile Backup website, why does the input box sometimes turn red when I am entering contact details?

The website can generally hold a greater number of characters than your phone can for each field. The box will turn red to notify you that you have reached the character limit for your phone. Any extra characters you type in will be saved on the website, but not synched to your phone. Only the characters that are entered before the box turns red will be synched to your phone.

Using my Motorola QTM Global phone, why do I occasionally receive an error message if I try to delete all my contacts from the website and run a backup to remove them from my phone?

It may take more than one backup to delete all of your contacts. The connection between the Motorola QTM Global and the website may need to be re-established especially if your address book contains a lot of contacts. Simply re-try until the error message no longer appears.
